Image
Trump strikes blow against Iran nuclear deal in major U.S. policy shift U.S. President Donald Trump struck a blow against the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement on Friday in defiance of other world powers, choosing not to certify that Tehran is complying with the deal and warning he might ultimately terminate it. Trump announced the major shift in U.S. policy in a speech that detailed a more confrontational approach to Iran over its nuclear and ballistic missile programs and its support for extremist groups in the Middle East. Trump said in an address at the White House that his goal is to ensure Iran's never obtains a nuclear weapon. "We will not continue down a path whose predictable conclusion is more violence more terror and the very real threat of Iran’s nuclear breakout," Trump said. While Trump did not pull the United States out of the agreement, aimed at preventing Iran from developing a nuclear bomb, he gave the U.S. Congress 60 days to dec...

Trump and Kim Jong-un threats 'out of hand' as Russia & China pose 'DANGER'

Image
Trump and Kim Jong-un threats 'out of hand' as Russia & China pose 'DANGER' Sir Lawrence Freedman said “robust and tough” language from both the United States and North Korea chiefs could turn into something serious if left unchecked. North Korea's foreign minister has accused Donald Trump of lighting "the wick of war" with his repeated insults and threats amid growing World War 3 fears. Sir Freedman, emeritus professor of War Studies at King's College London, said there was a “big question” on whether “further conflict” could occur between Russia and Europe. He added China’s rapid growth was also an issue. Speaking on the Today programme, on BBC Radio 4, Sir Freedman said: “You can argue that the rhetoric is improving deterrent because it makes people realise why they need to be worried. “But at the same time the rhetoric may get out of hand in which case then you’re in danger of what you think is...

European Union is set to agree on Monday to ban business ties with North Korea

Image
European Union is set to agree on Monday to ban business ties with North Korea The European Union is set to agree on Monday to ban business ties with North Korea, part of a new package of sanctions to isolate Pyongyang over its nuclear and missile programs. The practical impact of the moves is likely to be mostly symbolic: Brussels will impose an oil embargo and a ban on EU investment, but it sells no crude to North Korea and European companies have no substantial investments there. North Korean workers in the EU, of which Brussels estimates there are about 400 mainly in Poland, will face a lower limit on the amount for money they can send home and their work visas will not be renewed once they expire. The measures to be agreed by EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg go further than the latest round of multi-lateral sanctions imposed by the United Nations Security Council. "The North Koreans appear to be uninterested in having the EU get involved as a pea...

A large number of people were also injured in Thursday's attack, the source said. The attack took place at Abu Fas, near the border of Deir al-Zor and Hasaka provinces, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights war monitor said, after earlier saying at least 18 people had died. The dead included refugees fleeing the fighting in Deir al-Zor as well as members of the Kurdish Asayish security force, the Observatory reported. Syrian state television said dozens had been killed in the attack. The jihadist group has lost swathes of its territory in both Syria and Iraq this year and is falling back on the towns and villages of the Euphrates valley southeast of Deir al-Zor. The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces alliance of Kurdish and Arab militias is ...

Trump scraps key Obamacare subsidies, urges Democrats to fix 'broken mess' President Donald Trump on Friday urged Democrats to make a deal with him on healthcare after he scrapped billions of dollars in Obamacare subsidies to private health insurers for low-income Americans in a move that raised concerns about chaos in insurance markets and could face legal challenges. The Trump administration on Friday disclosed the date of the subsidies cutoff after announcing late on Thursday the most dramatic action the president has taken to undercut Democratic former President Barack Obama's signature 2010 healthcare law. Attorney General Jeff Sessions said the administration will not make the next payment to insurers scheduled for next Wednesday. The payments cost $7 billion this year and were estimated to be $10 billion in 2018, according to congressional analysts. Trump has made the payments, guaranteed to insurers under Obamacare to help lower out-of-pock...
