It was not immediately clear what triggered the blast but the Turkish Red Crescent head has urged residents living nearby to remain indoors, shut windows over concerns of a possible chemical gas release.
The explosion occurred at a the factory, which holds more than 110 tonnes of fireworks in its warehouse in the Sakarya district on the Black Sea coast.
Sakarya Governor cetin Oktay Kaldırım said that there were about 150 to 200 people working in the factory at the time.
Firefighters and ambulances were sent to the scene and the injured people have been taken to hospital.
They and are reported to be in good condition the governor added.Turkey's interior, health and labour ministers went to Sakarya to monitor the situation
