Tropical Storm Claudette forms along U.S. Gulf Coast Massive floods expected in coastal states.


Tropical Storm Claudette formed inland over far southeastern Louisiana Saturday morning. As of 7 a.m. CDT, the storm was about 30 miles north of New Orleans.

Heavy rain, gusty winds and even some tornado warnings throughout the Southeast this morning as Tropical Storm Claudette moves inland This storm will weaken as it drifts towards the Carolinas this weekend, before potentially reforming over the Atlantic next week.

Flooding had already begun in the area overnight Friday into Saturday, with local reports of high water over roads and stranded vehicles.

The system will bring heavy rain, strong winds and an isolated tornado threat to the Deep South today. No impacts expected in Southwest Florida.
